Today, we affirm our commitment to this vision, returning in 2024 with the launch of Borderless Ads — a Web3-enabled in-game ad tech solution offering non-intrusive and interactive ads and the world’s first in-game product placements to millions of gamers. Over the past months, we’ve fine-tuned our offerings to cater directly to the needs of game studios eager to monetize through advertising, brands keen on reaching hard-to-impress gamers, and most of all, the players who just want to keep playing great games. Our solution is built with all these groups in mind — the citizens of a borderless future in gaming.

Interoperability Reimagined: Bringing Ads & Assets Beyond Borders

In 2022, ReneVerse set out to let gamers in both Web2 and Web3 bring their weapons, items, skins, and other valuable items with them between games. We worked tirelessly to develop this interoperability tech and brought it to the hands of tens of thousands of game developers worldwide. And while our solution was loved by developers, it was hard to grasp for players. After all, players just want to play great games.

And so, we iterated upon our interoperability solution, developing and catering the technology to an area of gaming that needed change, desperately — in-game advertising. It was clear to us that many games are in search of ways to monetize their game better, but it was even clearer that the way it’s been done with intrusive pop-ups and irrelevant ad engines is hated by gamers — with a passion. Thus, ReneVerse has advanced its core technology and brought to market Borderless Ads, a non-intrusive approach to in-game ads that protects the player’s immersion and delivers branded content through a reward-driven and gamified experience.

As of now, in-game advertising is a growing subsector of the gaming industry, and as such, there has yet to be a solution that fairly considers the needs and desires of all these stakeholders mentioned above. Sometimes, in an effort (or a real need) to monetize, games opted for intrusive advertising, risking their players’ satisfaction. Similarly, brands were limited in their ability to properly convey their branding messages, unintentionally creating negative brand recognition.

Additionally, while there’s precedence for non-intrusive ads inside of games, they aren’t always more effective than intrusive ads. A great example of this is rewarded interstitials; while players are forced to watch these ads, at least they get some reward that can be used within the game later on. We all hate distracting ads… but rewards are great. These can take many forms and serve as a viable way to offset many of the drawbacks of existing in-game advertising models.

Borderless Ads iterates on this concept by marrying rewards with non-intrusiveness. With Borderless Ad Points, as a player, with every ad you see or interact with in your play session, you’ll be passively rewarded with an accumulation of Ad Points, which are used to calculate your share of the ad revenue generated from advertising brands.

These rewards, combined with real innovations in our non-intrusive advertising technology, such as enhanced targeting for brands and new advertising mediums like Branded Assets, contribute to a more immersive in-game advertising experience for all kinds of users, with plenty of upside.

Borderless Ads isn’t just billboards — introducing Branded Assets, the world’s first implementation of dynamic, in-game product placements.

Branded Assets are advertiser-owned, bespoke in-game assets that wear their brand. Ranging in form and function, Branded Assets bring real-world, offline advertising tactics into the virtual world. It could be a t-shirt, a brand-adorned weapon or item, or even a building or vehicle. Imagine a McDonald’s restaurant and drive-thru where players get a promotion code for a future meal at participating, real-life restaurants.

With Borderless Ads, brands can augment both their campaigns and the games in which they deliver those campaigns with innovative and charming product placements like this.

3. Web2 Simplicity with Web3 Benefits

Most importantly, we understand that the future of gaming cannot be realized without the majority of gamers who are still enjoying Web2 games.
